On May 8, 2020, the Sarajevo company "Mibo Komunikacije" donated a transport isolation chamber to the Public Institution ZHMP KS, worth approximately 25,000 KM. The transport isolation chamber is equipment that will greatly facilitate the work of the medical staff of JU ZHMP KS both during the coronavirus pandemic and in normal circumstances. When talking about the treatment and transport of patients with suspected or confirmed presence of coronavirus, one of the complications that can occur in such patients is the compromise of the respiratory system which sometimes requires a rapid response of medical staff in terms of assisted or complete artificial ventilation. care. On the other hand, patients who are confirmed to have coronavirus may also experience sudden cardiac arrest or some other disease or injury that will require advanced life support. As we already know, coronavirus spreads mostly by droplets, and during assisted or artificial ventilation and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, aerosols are released to an increased extent, which greatly increases the possibility of infection of medical staff and the environment. The chamber is designed so that it allows unhindered treatment at the scene of the accident and during the transport of the mentioned patients, providing high protection of the medical staff. The chamber also protects the health facility from infection as the patient is escorted to the isolation ward where he will be housed and definitely cared for.
When it comes to the time beyond the coronavirus pandemic, the employees of JU ZHMP KS were able to treat and transport patients suffering from meningococcal sepsis, which is a highly contagious disease, and they themselves were at high risk. The health institution to which such a patient is transported is exposed to contamination, and after the completion of treatment and transport, the ambulance in which such a patient was, would be out of use for at least 24 hours due to disinfection. Thanks to the isolation chamber, we will be able to adequately respond to the possible occurrence of such or similar situations and to protect our staff and the health care system.
In addition to providing protection to the medical staff and the healthcare system from the infectious patient in the chamber, the transport isolation chamber also adequately protects the patient in the chamber from the external environment. Our staff has been able to treat and transport patients whose immune system is highly compromised (leukemia…) where sometimes exposure to such patients and the mildest pathogen, can lead to a fatal outcome. In this case, the chamber will protect the patient from medical professionals and the health care system during transport to an adequate medical facility.
The isolation chamber adapts to the needs of the patient by very simply changing the positions of the safety filters and using positive or negative pressure in the chamber itself.
On behalf of the collective of JU ZHMP KS and on behalf of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton, we thank the company Mibo Komunikacija for this really important and very useful donation.
