This is the first of a total of six so-called AED devices that will be installed at various locations in the BiH capital, as part of a project jointly implemented by the Sarajevo Canton Emergency Medical Service and the City of Sarajevo.

Ambulance crews demonstrated today how to use the device. According to the director of the Ambulance, Adem Zalihić, with this very simple device, anyone can save a person's life. The device has an ON / OFF button for turning it on and off and two self-adhesive electrodes that are glued to the chest. The device has audio instructions, which makes it even easier to use.

"Serious research in the west has shown that it takes three to five minutes for the ambulance team to reach the victim functionally. Even in developed countries this is unachievable. Therefore, people have to design a broad education of citizens and the installation of such devices so that action can be taken as soon as possible. When the heart does not work for five minutes, the brain dies. After that, man becomes a plant and a burden to the family and the citizens. Therefore, in this period of three to five minutes, each person can help save another person. Successful resuscitation is a great benefit for the whole society ", pointed out Zalihić.

He added that the AED device is not dangerous to society in any way, given that certain misinformation has appeared on the Internet and social networks.

"The devices are absolutely safe. They are manufactured in such a way that no one can get hurt. The device can deliver shock only when the person cares about the heart. There is no fear. It is very easy to use, but training is also required. By the contract we signed with the City Administration, we undertook to train all the people from the environment where we install these devices. In addition, we will create a network to know exactly where these devices are located, which is of great importance to us from the Ambulance ", said Zalihić.

In addition to AED devices in Dobrinja, five more such devices will be installed in Sarajevo in the coming period. As far as is known, one device will be placed in the City Hall, somewhere in the area of the promenade in Ferhadija, in Skenderija, in the BBI center and in the Olympic swimming pool of Otok.

Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka expressed great support for the project.

"I am glad that the city of Sarajevo is positioned on the list of world capitals that have such devices. We will support this project in the future because our time and energy is worth investing to save the lives of our citizens. Such and similar projects raise health awareness. We will certainly not stop at six of these devices ", said Skaka.

We remind you that the Law of the European Union requires the installation of AEDs at all gathering places of thousands of people.
