Adem Zalihić, director of the KS Ambulance, says that the literature of emergency medicine nowhere in the world treats tick bites as an emergency medical condition.

“We stopped receiving such patients prompted by the situation from three nights ago. That night we had as many as 21 cases of tick removal on the protocol, and in the meantime one patient came with a severe head injury, i.e. with profuse bleeding, and no patient with a tick wanted to let him in for an examination. Some even protested when the doctor made a selection according to priorities ", said Adem Zalihić.

He also pointed out that it is a shame that in such cases, the medical service and civil ethics are not respected. Also, Zalihić emphasizes once again that tick bites do not belong to the domain of emergency medical care and appeals to all citizens to have understanding.

“Patients with tick bites should contact their family doctor. All those who come to us only hinder our work. There are a lot of such patients. So, someone would gladly leave a patient with a heart attack waiting in the waiting room while he takes out the tick. We must not allow that. It is not moral, it is not ethical, and people, unfortunately, have less and less hearing. In order to avoid confusion, people with tick bites are for medical help, but not for emergency care ", pointed out Zalihić.
