You are in a situation to save your life as a layman, and often people are executed when a person loses consciousness, when it floods, when foam appears in his mouth, and all they know is to call an ambulance. And an ambulance should be called, but until the ambulance arrives, that time is very important, Zalihić points out

Educator Sedin Popara showed how to provide first aid
In one working day, and a lot of will and effort, it is possible to learn how to save someone's life and do something invaluable for yourself, an individual and society.
Public institution Institute for Emergency Medical Aid of Sarajevo Canton in the Education Center “Prim. Dr. Silva Rizvanbegović ”organizes courses for citizens, officials and all those who want to learn techniques for saving lives.

- During one day, course participants can learn how to help a man who has lost consciousness, how to approach him, how to start a heart massage correctly, how to do artificial respiration. We show how to react in some more unfortunate situations, if a foreign body gets stuck in the airway, how to get rid of that foreign body, how to stop bleeding, what are the problems with drowning, what in case of lightning, everything that is incidental - he said for Faktor Director of Ambulance Adem Zalihić, emphasizing that a lot is learned on the course.
The course, he says, lasts one day but a diploma cannot be obtained until it is passed.
- We have very good resuscitation dolls and you can judge for yourself whether you are doing well or not. The doll is made to recognize if you have mastered the technique. No one will leave until they know how to do that procedure completely - says Zalihić.
He says that the standard in the world is to educate citizens in providing first aid.

- In America, such education is mandatory for high school and university students, they must know how to apply these techniques, to know the basic measures of life support. This is invaluable, because someone from full health is in a situation where he is clinically dead, you, if you know the procedure, can save a person's life. You are in a situation to save your life as a layman, and often people are executed when a person loses consciousness, when it floods, when foam appears in his mouth, and all they know is to call an ambulance. And an ambulance should be called, but until the ambulance arrives, that time is very important - Zalihić points out.
Every day, he says, it happens that people come to the aid of the injured and know what and how to do.
- But it also happens every day that people call an ambulance, they scream on the phone because they don't know what to do, and you don't have the opportunity to tell them anything because it is very important to do something before the team arrives. Often citizens put a person in a vehicle and rush to the emergency room in a very unfavorable position for the patient. Mostly the patient's head is bent, the airway is closed and often fatally ends, and it is precisely because of these small small moves - says Dr. Adem Zalihić, Director of Ambulance
Recently, he says, they had a case where a police officer who completed training at the Emergency Education Center saved a man's life.
- We had a case where a man lost consciousness in a restaurant in Koševo and there was a policeman who took our course. The man collapsed because his heart stopped, and the police officer started basic life support measures, heart massage and artificial respiration, and called an ambulance. He bought our team the necessary time so that his body would not be left without oxygen. Our team came and took over with the devices, continued the resuscitation and it ended successfully. The man was transported to the Clinical Center, after a few days he left the hospital as if nothing had happened. Imagine what a benefit it is for an individual, both for the family and for society - says the director of the Emergency Service.

Mujo Subašić, chief medical technician and Sedin Popara, educator, showed how to provide first aid using an AED defibrillator, a first aid device that can be found in a large number of busy places in Sarajevo, shopping malls, embassies, municipalities, and at Sarajevo International Airport. Educators point out that this device can also be used by non-medical workers, people who have taken a course at the Education Center. They note that the same procedure is in giving first aid without an AED device.

The head of the educational center, Dr. Aida Gavranović, points out that it is important to master the basic measures of keeping a person alive, and to know what to do depending on what happened to the person.
- You need to know what to do first when we have an injured person or an unconscious person. The first minutes are crucial, it is important to be able to recognize what happened to the patient and what to say when an ambulance is called. We buy the patient time by resuscitation. When we talk about successful resuscitations in our country, that number is above average - says Dr. Gavranović.
